Lent and Easter Seasons
Midweek evening soup suppers and storytelling.
6:00 pm, Feb. 26, March 5, 12, 19, 26. We will gather for soup and bread each Thursday in Lent. Come share a meal and fellowship before evening prayer. A different Advent member who has grown up or has family or has visited in different parts of our world will share stories and thoughts with us as we eat, beginning around 6:30. These stories will help us better pray for the people of that part of the world during evening prayer.
Midweek Evening Prayer
Thursdays at 7:00 PM beginning February 26 We will gather for a half-hour service of sung evening prayer. There will be time for silent meditation and prayer, supported by a list of prayer intentions you can use in your own prayer time; the the stories and thoughts we have heard during the soup supper can shape our prayers for a particular part of our world. Contributions given during these evening prayer services will support our First Quarter Mission, Bread for the World.
During Holy Week we enter Jesus’s last days on earth. Come and be a part of this ancient liturgy of celebrating our new life in Christ. Experience the sights, sounds and actions of these awesome days, and Christ will renew your heart and spirit in the deepest truths of life.
Palm Sunday March 29, 8 and 10:45 am The congregation will meet outside for the Procession with Palms, remembering Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem. The Chancel Choir will provide special music during both worship services.
HE GREAT THREE DAYS --One liturgy during which we take breaks for the necessities of this life.
Maundy Thursday April 2, 7:30 pm Worship will include scripture, song, prayer stations, holy communion, and stripping of the altar.
Good Friday April 3, 7:30 pm We mark the suffering and death of Christ and our redemption. Worship will include an opportunity to pray around the cross.
Easter Vigil April 4, 7:30 pm We gather outside as the New Fire is lit, process with candles and hear the Easter Proclamation sung. We hear stories from the Old Testament. Some will be baptized, and we all can affirm our baptisms. We bring out the Easter decorations and celebrate the first Holy Communion of Easter. There will be a festive reception for all at the end of the worship service.
Easter Sunday April 5, 8 and 10:45 am. The alleluias will abound and the Chancel Choir will sing during worship. The youth will serve an Easter Breakfast from 9:00 - 11:00 AM and receive freewill donations for the breakfast.
