Becoming a Member
Advent Lutheran Church welcomes all people, regardless of membership, to worship and to participation in any of our programs, events, classes or Bible studies.
We invite and encourage any person who would like to explore membership in our congregation to do so. Adults can explore membership through participating in the Discovery Class Pastor Warner leads twice each year (a September - November class and a winter/spring class). The purpose of Discovery Class is to invite the participants into an open-ended opportunity of asking key questions of God, themselves and of our faith tradition. We wish to provide resources for discovering the Christian faith and transparency and openness about our tradition. Those who participate in the Discovery Class I are free to decide for themselves whether or not they wish to become members of this congregation. For more on our faith in the Living God, see What We Believe and Statements of Faith.
Adults who have not yet received Baptism are invited to consider doing so and are provided instruction and support in prayer as they prepare for baptism, through their participation in the Discovery Class and through meetings with the Pastor and their baptismal sponsor or sponsors.
Children and youth who receive Baptism in our congregation are received as baptized members of our congregation. We encourage their parents, if they are not members of our congregation, to be a part of a Discovery Class and consider joining their child or children in becoming members of this congregation.
Those who are already active members of another Lutheran congregation are encouraged to participate in the Discovery Class or they may be received as members of our congregation through transfer of membership.
If you have questions about membership or would like to be a part of the next Discovery Class, please contact Pastor Anita Warner at pastorw@advent-lutheran.org.
