Sew Seeds
Sewing Seeds of Love for God in our Church, Community, and World
The sewing group at Advent Lutheran Church, in Morgan Hill, CA, formed in March 2008. The work that we do is three-fold.
The backbone of the work that we do is for Lutheran World Relief (LWR). We sew quilts to give for LWR; they in turn, pass them along to their partners in 35 countries. In 2007, LWR sent almost ½ million quilts to those in need around the world! Also, we help Advent assemble health kits, sewing kits, soap, baby layettes, and school kits for LWR. These items provide cleanliness and dignity to those who need it the most.
Secondly, Advent sews for the needs of the work of the congregation. They have made quiet toys for children to use during worship services and mended acolyte robes. Other upcoming needs are: banners for worship and other worship materials.
Thirdly, the Sew Seeds sews for local ministries. Currently, they are sewing quilts for the homeless of Morgan Hill through St. Catherine's Catholic Church Reach Out program.
The group sews the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Tuesday of every month, and occasionally on Saturdays. The group is open to anyone who is supportive of the mission of the group. Contact the church office for more information: 408-779-3551
An ingathering of quilts from chuches in North California for Lutheran World Relief will be held again at Advent October.
Quilts, layettes, soap, sewing fabric, and sewing, school and health kits are being collected at the Northern California ingathering. Specific assembly guidelines for the projects are available online. Read about the Project Comfort Fund and Good Samaritan Quilt Plaza.
